A unique place on the French theatrical scene

As the only national theatre located in a province (i.e. in Alsace), the history of the TNS is remarkable. Its premises consist of several theatre rooms, a company, a superior school of drama, work and rehearsal rooms, administration buildings, set and costume design workshops.

The TNS presents about fifteen shows each season - among which at least one show is put on by the TNS company – as well as 3 or 4 co-productions and about 10 shows performed by guest companies. The TNS thus ascribes the contemporary repertoire and creation with an essential role, while opening itself up to Europe and the world. At the end of the season, the Festival Premières is a valuable addition to our programme as it welcomes a dozen shows put on by young European directors.

The TNS strives to support the diversity of resolutely contemporary artistic expressions and movements, be it through plays that have never been staged before or through famous companies, even when they take inspiration from classical works. Every year, the TNS also presents the work accomplished by its graduates to the audience. To meet its objectives in terms of theatrical creation and distribution, education and widening of the audience, the TNS relies both on its company and a permanent staff of about a hundred technical and administrative wage-earners working under the authority of Julie Brochen, manager of the TNS.
