An Odessa district with its bars, port, traders, crooks, prostitutes, shopkeepers, rabbis. This is where the Kriks live. Mendel, the father, is a wealthy Jewish businessman, one of life’s monsters , who tyrannizes his family and indulges in all kinds of excesses.
A withering and colourful language combining lyricism and crudeness allows for the questioning of a mutating society. Earthy and exuberant characters meet. Words and bodies spring up. Comic and violent situations follow one another as music becomes a full-fledged actor. Irène Bonnaud likes to work on intimate communities, for they show the true nature of humanity.
